Meet the team behind Dreamflight’s 2026 Orlando trip in this special series, shining a light on the volunteers who make it all possible.
Wendy is a paediatric nurse, and she lives in the heart of the Lake District with her husband, Steve. She enjoys socialising with her family and friends, walking, and spa days.
Wendy joined her first Dreamflight trip as a nurse nearly 20 years ago, thinking it would be a one off. Now, she’s about to take on her 16th Orlando trip as a group leader. Being a Dreamflight group leader is a year-round commitment, as Wendy explains:
“The group leader role is more than just a 10-day trip. It begins early in the year sourcing nominations, selecting guides, and then selecting Very Important Children (VICs). We then arrange medical assessment days and regional group get togethers for the VICs and their families pre-trip. This allows us to build relationships with the VICs and work with the families to ensure we can meet their care needs during the trip.
Then comes the fun part…. Orlando! On the trip the role involves managing and supporting the team, planning our days around the parks. Although I have the group leader title, it really is a team approach and the role wouldn’t be achievable without the support and help of the fantastic team I’m lucky enough to share this with. The time and dedication they all give both on the trip and in the planning makes it all possible.
When the trip is over, we enjoy a little down time before planning a reunion and then repeating the process again!” – Wendy, Group Leader
