In 2010 Sean couldn’t believe that he had been invited on Dreamflight. He was overwhelmed with excitement. In his own words he ‘had a usual family life with my sisters and brothers. I played wheelchair basketball once a week but didn’t really have my sights set on anything really’.
Sean told us that ‘the main impact and lasting influence on me [from the trip] is that there are no limitations on me if I truly want to achieve something’. He has taken this ethos with him and – in July 2022 – won a silver medal for Team Scotland in the Men’s T53/54 Marathon. At his first Commonwealth Games!
When talking about his Dreamflight trip he said, ‘all the people on the trip made you feel very special throughout the whole experience’.
When we asked what he would tell this year’s Dreamflight VICs (Very Important Children) he said: ‘I would tell the kids that are going, to soak up absolutely every minute of the trip, to try absolutely everything that’s on offer and to make memories that will last them their entire lives’.
He added that they should ‘realise how special they all are. They are in absolutely fantastic hands with the most wonderful people you could ever meet and the experiences and memories they’ll make will be so amazing’. Thank you, Sean – we couldn’t agree more!
