Run Terry Run!

Run Terry Run! Retweet

Good luck to Terry Hooley who will be running the London Marathon on Sunday in aid of Dreamflight.  Here is his story......

“I remember watching the first London Marathon some 30 years ago and being inspired by the thousands of ‘ordinary’ people that took part. I thought that it would be a wonderful event to be a part of without ever believing that I would have the chance, or ability, to do it.

I have just passed the ripe old age of 50 and a few years ago took up running to try and fight off the ever expanding spare tyre which was gathering around my middle ! I was talked into entering a local 10k race by some of my work colleagues which I really enjoyed and this led to me completing the Great South Run in 2010. About that time I also learnt that I had obtained a place in the London Marathon in 2011 which I had registered for earlier in the year without ever believing that I would get a place.

Running then took over my life and I have been training regularly since then, completing the Silverstone Half Marathon a few weeks ago as part of my preparation. I have suffered with problems with one of my knees due to the amount of mileage I have been doing but, with a regular sports massage, I am hoping this won’t prevent me from completing the course. As soon as news of my Marathon entry had escaped into the neighbourhood I was approached by a good friend and neighbour, Tracey Tulk, who suggested I run for Dreamflight. Tracey is a Children’s Nurse who has had first-hand experience of what Dreamflight can do as she knows some of the helpers and volunteers associated with the charity. I had no hesitation in agreeing to try and raise funds for this brilliant cause. I will wear the Dreamflight vest with pride as I plod round the streets of London and do my best to promote the charity as I go.

The London Marathon is a great personal challenge for me and to be able to help Dreamflight will undoubtedly give me extra motivation to complete the course. I do not expect to finish in a record breaking time but I will finish – I want to enjoy the experience whilst raising some money to benefit others.”

Not only is Terry challenging himself to run 26.2 miles but he is aiming to raise £3000- enough to send one child on their holiday of a lifetime.  Show Terry some support and visit his justgiving page
