Army Golf Club Raises over £13,500 for Dreamflight

Army Golf Club Raises over £13,500 for Dreamflight Retweet

Last year Dreamflight supporter Annie Green (pictured on the right) was elected Ladies Captain at the Army Golf Club and her fantastic fundraising efforts have paid for four deserving children to go on the magical Dreamflight holiday to Orlando.  Here is Annie’s report:

It was a great honour to be asked to be Lady Captain of Army Golf Club and I took up office at the end of October 2009.  My charity was not the usual ‘secret’ and a very easy choice for me - as a good friend of Pat Pearce and following my involvement over many years with Dreamflight, it really was a pure matter of protocol to announce this at the AGM.

My year began with two fun but very wet drive-ins and over £500 was immediately raised through both sale of the Lady Captains Charity Car Park Space and also guessing the distance of my two drives (which despite the weather were pretty good, if I do say so myself!!).

In the Spring some of our Lady Members successfully completed the Fleet half marathon and raised £2,200.  The year was now well underway and much fundraising took place at our big golf events such as the Club Championship, Spring Meeting and Autumn Meeting.  Generous donations of raffle prizes at each competition alongside a few fun quiz competitions helped to swell the funds.  We also gratefully received an extremely generous donation through one of our Committee members and a number of small donations from other members.

The club Captain, Mark Smith, was a tremendous support to me and suggested a joint Captain's Ball which took place in July - the event was a huge success and the club looked superb.  Approximately £5,000 was raised at the Ball which was shared between Dreamflight and Mark's charity.

Mark and I had a fabulous year together and I was invited to join him in presenting a cheque to his chosen Charity which was the F1 Children’s Serious Illness Ward at Frimley Park Hospital.  Mark's year as Club Captain raised over £5,000 which will be used to fit out a  room in the ward as a recreational place for the children to use during their long term stays in hospital, a really worthwhile cause.

My year ended a few weeks ago and I was delighted to have raised, in total, over £13,500 for Dreamflight - my heartfelt thanks to Mark and everyone at the Army Golf Club for their support and generosity.

On behalf of everyone here at Dreamflight, we would like to extend our thank to Annie Green and the Army Golf Club for their tremendous fundraising efforts.
