In December a group of employees at a local north east business won the chance in a company competition to donate an extraordinary Christmas present – a cheque for £3000 to sponsor a local seriously ill child to experience a magical holiday of a lifetime with the Dreamflight charity. Helen Johnson from the winning team at Piramal said, “Dreamflight seemed a perfect choice for us, as we all have children and have experienced the magic of Orlando with our own children, and could only imagine the effect it would have for the deserving children on the Dreamflight trip”. President of Piramal operations in the UK Aidan Walker added; “we are always very keen to support our local community, ................and are delighted that this money will be able to make a holiday of a lifetime possible for a local child on next year’s Dreamflight”.
But amazingly the fundraising did not stop there, as Helen explained; “when James from Dreamflight came into Piramal to receive the cheque he showed us a short film about Dreamflight. We were all so moved by what we saw that we decided that we must try and raise another £3000 and help another child”. ”.........we started by baking cakes and selling them at work, and then everyone was so supportive that we decided to organise a Ladies Night in our work canteen. A team of us managed to gather donations from friends, colleagues and local businesses to have a raffle and tombola, and we also had lots of stalls selling a selection of crafts, foodstuffs, make-up and jewellery. We had a great night, and altogether raised £2622.19. We still have some fundraising activities ongoing, and it won’t be too long before we hit the magic number!”
Helen summed up the experience commenting, “......... getting involved with fundraising for Dreamflight is one of the most rewarding things we have ever done, and has really got our workplace something to work on together and achieve. It has been brilliant, and we are so pleased that we have been able to help and make a real difference in this way”.
On behalf of the Northeast Tigger group, and the children who will be heading for Orlando in October on Dreamflight 2011, we would like to pass on our huge thanks to Helen and everyone at Piramal who have and continue to be so generous in their support of Dreamflight and in making it possible for another 2 children. Absolutely fantastic!
